Every school has its own policies how to run a successful educational institution. These policies have to be adhered to so that all students have an equal guidance how to work in a workshop environment. Some policies are required by the BC Government Educational Ministry and VMAS has to post and administer them to get registered and maintain registration.
Now BC has many private schools and many of them are very different from each other and they need also different policies. The policies have all the safety and the learning outcome of the student in mind. They are either based on the experience of the school owner/operators through past years or also through common sense.
An important example: The attendance policy which is a requirement by the BC Government tells students to attend classes for a specific amount of time. This time frame is set and calculated to make sure, students can fulfill their learning obligations in a proper time frame. Not to use this time frame adequately may result in not achieving the learning goal.A "new" policy example: It is common that students use their cell phone devices. It may actually disturb fellow students when somebody is organizing their weekend activities, evening activities or personal relationships while working on a piece. That does not make sense because not only is it not possible to work adequately on a piece of jewellery (own distraction) but also other students are getting distracted too. Therefore it is not permitted in our class room to use communication devices. If somebody has to make a phone call the student has to leave the room.
